Description: Antique and unusual desktop thermometer made by the Crescent Art Novelties Co. of Irvington New Jersey. The nonferrous metal thermometer has a central dial with a ship's anchor design. The dial shows the temperature in its upper portion and has a needle which moves to indicate the temperature. The thermometer, which reads temperatures in degrees Fahrenheit, has a rectangular base which is covered with green felt. The thermometer does rise in temperature when exposed to heat and falls in temperature when exposed to cold indicating that it is in working condition. We have not attempted to determine its accuracy and are selling the piece as is. The piece is in very good condition and would make a great addition to your collection. Date: Uncertain, but most likely late 1800s (Late 19th century) or very early 1900s (very early 20th century). Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece was made in Irvington, New Jersey. Size: The thermometer is ~4 3/4" high, ~2 3/4" at its widest, with the dial being ~2 1/4" in diameter and the base being ~2 1/2" by
