Crunchy leaves, tasty, vigorous are just a few of the words that describe Champion Collard Greens. 8"-12" tall with upright, dark green leaves. Mosaic tolerant. This is by far my favorite variety of collard greens. Dark green and rounded leaves produce and an abundance of tasty leaves. A great collard variety favored by many due to its small and shapely growing habit. Young leaves can be harvested early, then allow plant to continue to mature for an extended harvest. Collards are easily grown from seed. They do prefer a cooler growing temperatures. So it is best to plant them in early spring, as soon as the soil is workable. They can be grown for a fall crop and seed should be planted in late July for an early fall crop. They are high in vitamins and a healthy choice of vegetable to add to your diet. They taste delicious steamed, stir-fried, added to soups and are great to mix with other greens. Traditional greens are most often grown in the South. They can be grown in most area in the US. Champion Collards: Direct sow seeds 6-8 weeks prior to the last spring frost. Fall crop, direct sow the seeds 6-8 weeks before the first fall frost. Plant a few seeds every foot and 1/4 deep. For the need of bigger plants, space them 2' apart. Plant collards with tomatoes in your garden as a good companion. Deep, rich green leaves are broad and tender. Seeds are great for Planting in Garden or for storing in a seed safe for emergency.
